Due to its large number of educational institutions and startup capital providers, Austin has won accolades for being the one of the best cities for entrepreneurs. Not only are tech startups springing up at a brisk pace, but “Silicon Hills”, as locals call the Austin tech scene is also attracting many corporate relocations and expansions (See a map of Silicon Hills here: http://www.siliconmaps.com/Silicon_Hills_2014_Preview.html).

Hello,
Nice article above. I’m starting to research single family home investing to generate cash flow through renting. This being my first investment property and having a full time job and family, the property manger route sounded very nice. Your article has given me some second thoughts (ha-ha). In any event, would like to hear about the progress you’ve made and general experience in single family home investing.
Thanks,
Ben
Ben,
Just as with anything, you get out of it what you put in. Therefore, the most successful investors are generally the most
active
. There is no such thing as a “passive investment” in real estate. Those investing passively will likely suffer lackluster returns. That said, if it is something you’re passionate about, it is possible to generate above market returns at low risk consistently. You minimize your risk through (1) education, (2) understanding of risks involved, and (3) developing techniques and processes to minimize these risks.
Feel free to take a look at our other blog postings for additional information.
Best of luck to you with your investing.
